Earth Waste & Metal – Washington County Transfer Station
8536 NY 22
Granville, NY 12832
Days/Hours of Operation: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday from 8-4
Dear Valued Customers:
Earth Waste and Metal is implementing a fee structure effective May 1, 2019 to handle recyclables.
The fee structure will be similar to household trash fees beginning at $2.25 for a full recycling tote or 13 gallon kitchen trash bag size.
We will continue to sort segregate during the initial period, as we believe sort segregation of recycling is the most effective method to keep the product free of contaminants, potentially marketable, and out of landfills.
Fees are designed to cover the cost to man the station, bail the materials, store and ship the items.
We understand that the fees are difficult for customers to conceive. However, we are facing a situation where by some markets are no longer accepting materials and/or paying significantly less for the materials that they do accept. If and when we ship cardboard, plastic, newspaper etc., we have already significant investment into the product and the market does not offset those costs any longer.
We recognize that slowly domestic markets may respond and begin to find new uses for some of the commodities. Until that time we must adjust to the new global economy. We appreciate the support of our employees. Now, we need the support of our community and customers, to ensure that the five Washington county transfer stations continue to thrive as they serve the public.
Earth Waste encourages all to recycle because it is best to keep the reusable waste out of the landfills. We will continue to take scrap metal for free.
Recycling will no longer be free to our customers. This decision is based on the increasing costs to dispose of recyclables and the loss of global recycling markets that previously offset these costs.
Beginning May 1, 2019, the transfer station fees for recycling disposal will be as follows:
$2.25 per recycling bin or kitchen bag (15 gallon size)
$4.50 (30 gallon bags and up)
If you have your recycling in a bin/tote, please sort the items we still have markets for as identified at your station.
If you have bagged recyclables, please sort as signage requests and empty out the contents. Keep your bag for re-use.
Attendants are here to assist and help, as we transition to new processes.
Metal will remain FREE.
We appreciate your patronage and support. Thank you for helping us to keep the recycling out of the household trash .
It’s the right thing to do for the Earth.
